Czech TV Nova Delivers Comprehensive Dakar Rally 2026 Coverage with Extended Format and Expert Analysis

TV Nova expanded its Dakar Rally coverage for 2026, offering 80-minute episodes and enhanced viewer engagement as the world’s toughest rally concluded in Saudi Arabia.

Extended Coverage Format Meets Viewer Demand

TV Nova significantly enhanced its 2026 Dakar Rally coverage, extending the format from 70 to 80 minutes of pure content to provide more space for analysis, interviews, and visual materials directly from the track. The Czech broadcaster moved the show to an earlier 9:30 PM time slot on Nova Action, responding to fan requests for more accessible viewing times.

The coverage ran daily from January 3-19, 2026, encompassing the entire rally plus post-event analysis. Viewers could watch live on Nova Action or stream on-demand through the Oneplay platform, ensuring no one missed the action from the world’s most grueling motorsport event.

Dušan Mendel, head of TV Nova’s sports editorial team, emphasized the network’s commitment: ‘Dakar 2026 will again be one of the highlights of the motorsport season and we are delighted to be able to bring it to viewers.’

Enhanced Expert Panel and Interactive Elements

The broadcaster strengthened its expert panel by adding Adam Peschel, a professional stunt rider who made history as the first rider from his discipline to complete the Dakar in 2025. He joined returning experts Josef Kalina, a Czech Dakar legend, and Libor Podmol, world champion in freestyle motocross.

Moderators Radek Mazal and Martin Pouva continued their established partnership, bringing continuity to the coverage. The show maintained popular segments including ‘Onboard of the Day,’ ‘Historical Window,’ and ‘On the Forehead,’ while dedicating more time to technical details and racer stories from the track.

Interactive Viewer Engagement and Special Episodes

TV Nova significantly increased viewer participation through multiple interactive elements. The traditional ‘Dakar Relics’ contest challenged viewers to identify the origin of racing car parts, while regular competitions offered chances to win seats in the Dakar studio.

Three special episodes featured studio audiences: the opening show with the prologue on January 3, a rest day episode on January 10, and the concluding show with racers on January 19. The network also planned special live coverage from the airport during the racers’ return to the Czech Republic on January 18.

Rally Concludes with Dramatic Finish

The 2026 Dakar Rally, which TV Nova covered extensively, concluded with one of the closest finishes in the event’s 48-year history. Luciano Benavides of Argentina won the motorcycle category by just 2 seconds over American Ricky Brabec, while Nasser Al-Attiyah claimed his sixth victory in the car class.

The rally covered nearly 3,107 miles (5,000 kilometers) of timed stages across Saudi Arabia, starting and finishing in the Red Sea coastal city of Yanbu. Czech competitors performed strongly, with expectations that the 2026 edition would feature even more intense battles than the previous year, when Czech drivers achieved some of their best results in recent years.
